Charities are key stakeholders for policy-makers and the media, providing support services and vital information and data on vulnerable groups in society. The importance of their voice was never seen more so than in the pandemic, charities of all sizes amplified the impact of policy choices in real time which fed into the media scrutiny of government policy.

Charities' engagement with MPs at both constituency and Westminster level, helped ensure debates on the floor of the House were informed and constituent needs understood. The cost of living crisis sees a need for charities once again to mobilise on a sweeping national issue with perilous consequences, and to offer an informed stakeholder voice to parliamentarians and the media.

This discussion shared thoughts on stakeholder campaigning best practice in a crisis, and answers questions including;

  • What do MPs and the media need from charities?
  • What are the best ways to share vital data with them?
  • How can charities of all sizes build a voice in a saturated space of campaigns?

Speakers:

  • Alan Rusbridger - Editor, Prospect Magazine (Chair)
  • Barbara Keeley MP - Shadow Minister for Arts & Civil Society
  • Dr Matthew Sowemimo - Head of Public Affairs & Social Policy, The Salvation Army
  • Nicole Sykes - Policy & Communications Director, Pro-Bono Economics
